Ol' Dirty is dead.
[Don't expect many celebrity obituaries, but let me have this one, better late than never...]
That's my favourite pic. The BBC story attached isn't as good as the original story I saw with the image the, now sadly fairly dull (it was never the same when they dropped The Creature from the Wack Lagoon,) Hip-Hop Connection. I cut out and hung pic and story, in which Ol' Dirty, whilst on trial, had called a female juror a 'sperm donor' (not receptacle/bucket, oddly) and informed a New York journalist that his city (and indeed, the world, if I remember it as well as I think) had better look out, as he was 'after them'.
"I Ain't No Joke"
It's a brilliant story, but it's the line above - one Dirt McGirt used on both 'Return...' and his second album 'N***a Please' (the greatest soul album ever recorded) that continues to resonate. Ol' Dirty was a thrill to read, read about and listen to. The world is worse off for this magnificently solipsistic and unbelievably charismatic lunatic's absence.
It wasn't about laughing at you, Dirt. It was about laughing with you.
